Ensemble degli Intrigati, an ensemble specialised in avant-garde repertoire, works with exceptional artists, including Marco Angius, Roland Böer, Detlev Glanert, Luciano Garosi, Andrea Molino and Carlo Boccadoro.
After its debut at the 42nd Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte, the ensemble performed at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino festival and again in Arezzo, at the University of Siena, in the Aula Magna of the Rectorate, and in Pistoia with ambient sound performances.
At the 43rd Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte, the Ensemble performed the world premieres of pieces realised within the framework of the residency for young composers coordinated by Mauro Montalbetti.
In 2019, it performed in Brussels, at the Italian Cultural Institute, as part of a review dedicated to the composer Giacinto Scelsi. In the same year, at the 44th Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte, the ensemble tackled the 8×8 project coordinated by Fabrizio Festa, presenting the pieces of eight young composers inspired by the mapping of the monumental architecture of the city.
In 2020, at the 45th Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte, the Ensemble degli Intrigati was entrusted with the incidental music of the play Meta(à) composed by Giovanni Vannoni on the dramaturgy by Laura Fatini, ‘accurately performed musical interventions’ according to Opera magazine (UK). As part of the same festival, the ensemble presented four new pieces conceived for spaced-out musicians specially commissioned from as many authors.
In May 2021, the ensemble won first prize in the ‘Residenzensemble für Neüemusik’ competition organised by the Musikakademie Rheinsberg (Germany), becoming the first ensemble-in-residence for new music of the prestigious German institution. In the same year, on the occasion of the 46th Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte, the ensemble structured an artistic residency under the tutorship of Maestro Andrea Molino, realising two important projects with music by, among others, Carlo Boccadoro, Fabio Massimo Capogrosso, Giorgio Colombo Taccani and Alessandra Ravera.
In December 2022 the Ensemble held a concert for the ‘Nuova Consonanza’ Festival in Rome, performing three world premieres by A. Molino, C. Fizzarotti and F. Santori, as well as pieces by Berio, Donatoni, Taccani and Boccadoro.
In February 2023 the ensemble was a guest of the Associazione Gioventù Musicale Italiana in Modena.
In March 2024, the Ensemble took part in the ‘Scatola Sonora’ review, as part of the ‘I Concerti della Normale’ season in Pisa, with a programme focusing on contemporary Italian music.
In the same year, in April, they were the protagonists of a site-specific concert at the Fondazione del Teatro Barco in Padua.
Since May, the Ensemble has been in residence at the Conservatorio ‘L. Cherubini’ in Florence, for the development and performance of pieces by the students of the Composition classes.
The Ensemble is structured in the context of the artistic residency Camere Contemporanee, aimed at the promotion of new musical languages, sponsored by Fondazione Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte, in collaboration with Accademia del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali ‘R. Franci’ Siena, Associazione Musicisti Aretini.
The group promotes a repertoire capable of capturing the different declinations of the most modern and current languages, working both on ad hoc commissioned pieces and on the great contemporary repertoire. Indeed, since 2018 it has performed more than 20 world premieres, written by composers from the most prestigious national and international institutions.
Ensemble degli Intrigati is conceived as a modular and versatile ensemble, able to present itself in various formations, from duo to large ensemble.
Since 2024, the Ensemble’s Music Director has been Maestro Andrea Molino.
